With load volumes down & the spot market balanced, long-haul shipments have moved into the number two spot of desired freight, behind local city shipments. According to Freight Waves, long hauls are typically one the least desired but with fewer loads available, it is currently forcing carriers to transition.
Due to anticipation of new tariffs, businesses are preparing for uncertainty and loading up on goods. Consumer spending is currently down which can lead to warehouse congestion. Volumes will have to rise soon, or trucks will continue leaving the market causing more volatility down the road.
Florida and South Texas volumes are starting to rise and Northern California is following. Produce volumes are beginning to ship out of Salinas areas. Northern California capacity is available but will begin to fluctuate.
